Dogri Manyata Diwas celebrations held at GDC Ramgarh
Department of Dogri of Govt. Degree College Ramgarh celebrated "Dogri Manyta Diwas" to commemorate the recognition of Dogri Language by the Parliament of India in the year 2003, when it was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution. On this occasion,a Dogri ‘Lok Kath’ cum Poetry Recitation event was organised in the college premises. The event was organised under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College. The function started with the lighting of a traditional lamp and was followed by a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College who in her address laid emphasis on the importance of mother tongue and its use in our day-to-day conversation. She appreciated the role of the invited Dogri poets in the propagation of the Dogri language in the region. Prof. Braham Dutt, organising Secretary of the event and the Head of Dogri Department spoke on the vital role that poets play in awakening and enlightening society. He pointed out that poetry and Lok Kath (folk tales) serve as tools for social change, instilling values, and bringing attention to the issues faced by the community.The event was graced by four famous Local Dogri poets namely Basakhi Ram Sharma, Keemat Raj and Raj Kumar Dubey. The invited prominent poets recited their Dogri poems on different themes. Their performances provided a powerful insight into the beauty of Dogri literature and its relevance in contemporary times. In a special segment of the program, students from our college and from various schools namely Govt. Higher Secondary School, GhoBrahmana, Govt. High School, Samba, and Govt. Middle School, Kamala, participated in the event by reciting Dogri Lok Kaths. The students brought the essence of traditional Dogri folkloreto life, illustrating the timeless appeal of these stories that have been passed down through generations.
